Acupressure

  • Many forms and used most often in conjunction with other modalities.

  • The generally accepted traditional Chinese forms when used alone are usually somewhat painful and require strength to execute more.

  • More gentle forms are regularly used prior to acupuncture treatments; also for children and for the elderly.

  • Quite helpful in conjunction with acupuncture.

Cupping    Index

  • Therapeutic method of applying suction to the skin by attaching a small jar of glass, porcelain, or bamboo in which a vacuum is created, either by introducing heat into the jar, or by a suction device attached to the top of the jar

  • Used for “wind”, “damp”, numbness or pain

  • Several techniques used

Electro-Acupuncture/ Acupressure     Index

  • Many forms

  • WQ10-C and various modalities in this family commonly used with needles (this is the type of machine commonly used by anesthesiologists)

  • Especially useful for old injuries when the patient is strong

  • Other forms of non-needle electro-pressure utilize a probe with saline solution and a ground held by the patient (this can be very beneficial for the young, the old, and the very weak)

Moxabustion     Index

  • Compacted herb (artemesia vulgaris) is heated with a flame and held over the acupuncture point location to warm it

  • Many types

  • Can also be used on salt, garlic, ginger, or aconite powder which is placed on the skin before heating the point

  • Generally used for “depletion cold” patterns, but useful for many conditions

  • Specialized acupressure technique developed in China

  • Used for deep musculo-skeletal imbalance
